The 27th edition of the Global Hands-on Universe Conference (GHOU 2024) was held online from the 24th to the 27th of September 2024.

NUCLIO hosted the event, which connected educators, researchers, and science enthusiasts from all continents. Registered participants joined via Zoom, while those interested could follow along through the GHOU Facebook page.

Carl Pennypacker (founder of Hands-On Universe and President of the Permanent Council of GHOU), Rosa Doran (Chair of NUCLIO and President of the Executive Council of GHOU), and Gustavo Rojas (project coordinator at NUCLIO, Vice President of the GHOU General Assembly, and chairman of the event) welcomed all participants during the opening session, which took place at 08:00 UTC on the 24th of September.

This edition featured 6 keynote speakers, 54 oral presentations, 11 workshops, and 2 roundtable discussions. The list of topics included: Astronomy Education Research, Astronomy for Development, Astronomy for Equity and Inclusion, Best Practices in Astronomy Education and Outreach, Citizen Science, Cultural Astronomy and Archaeoastronomy, Innovation in Education, International Collaborations in the Virtual World, Research in the Classroom with Robotic Telescopes, The Next Generation of Ground-based and Space Telescopes, and much more. GHOU 2024 welcomed more than 134 participants, representing 43 countries.

GHOU organizers were truly inspired by the participants’ shared passion for science education and their commitment to empowering the next generation of teachers, scientists, and thinkers, and thank all the speakers, attendees, and supporters who made this event possible!
