Creating awareness about the importance of the protection of our dark skies is the main goal of the Dark Skies Rangers project, a joint effort from the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (USA) and NUCLIO (Portugal). The project runs two contests annually for students to creatively think about light pollution awareness.
Drawing contest:
Students (5-10 years old) around the world are invited to submit drawings reflecting these objectives;
Communicate the causes and consequences of light pollution;
Raise awareness of the importance of using outdoor lighting that are energy efficient and that direct the light downward;
Contribute to the reduction of light pollution and the preservation of the night sky;
Promote interest in Astronomy.
The submissions must be sent by 11 May 2018 and the winners will be announced on 28 May 2018. The winners will get a calendar of winning entries.

Report contest:

The submissions must be sent by 15 June 2018 and the winners will be announced on 15 July 2018. The winners will get a tablet as the 1st prize, a telescope from Meade as the 2nd prize and a Skywatcher telescope as the 3rd prize.
