A rare solar eclipse was visible on November 3 in parts of Europe, the US and Africa. Skywatchers in the north of Kenya are among those who were able to see the sun completely disappear behind the moon.
In the Kenyan capital Nairobi, astronomer Susan Murabana has been helping children understand what an eclipse is. “Most people think that the moon is eating the sun, for example, and that is why there is darkness during the day,” Murabana explained. “As much as we want to collect the traditional knowledge, we also want to take in the scientific knowledge that this is actually scientific and every so often, we have the moon passing between the sun and the earth if they are well aligned together,” Murabana continued.
